David Warner has sparked discussion across the IPL after publicly responding to Delhi Capitals Co-owner Parth Jindal‘s social media post announcing Rishabh Pant’s return to the franchise. The exchange followed the IPL’s confirmation of the completed trade between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2027 season, with Pant returning to Delhi Capitals while Kuldeep Yadav heads in the opposite direction. Although the transfer ranks among the biggest squad moves ahead of the new season, it was Warner’s reaction that quickly became the dominant talking point.
Warner’s reaction sparks conversation
After Jindal shared his message on X, Warner initially reacted with laughing emojis before posting a follow-up reply that generated widespread discussion. Responding to Jindal’s post, former Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad Captain David Warner wrote, “It was always going to happen. Auctions can get out of hand, and if there is a dip in form and one owner wants to get rid of you while the other wanted you but was unfortunately outbid, you can bide your time.”

Warner’s comments attracted attention given his own journey through the IPL. He represented Delhi Capitals in two separate spells, captained the franchise during the 2023 season, and previously led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the 2016 IPL title. During his second stint with Delhi Capitals between 2022 and 2024, he scored 432 runs in 2022 and 516 in 2023 before finishing with 168 runs in eight appearances during the 2024 campaign.
IPL confirms blockbuster trade
After the IPL confirmed the completed trade between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, Jindal took to X to thank Kuldeep Yadav for his contribution to the franchise while welcoming Pant back to Delhi. Pant returns to Delhi Capitals on a salary of INR 15 crore (approx. US$1.59 million), while Kuldeep joins Lucknow Super Giants on his existing INR 13.5 crore (approx. US$1.43 million) contract. Pant had originally joined Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2025 for a record INR 27 crore (approx. US$2.86 million).
Jindal wrote, “Dear Kuldeep, thank you for your service over the last five years at Delhi Capitals. You have been a core part of our team, and you will be sorely missed. Go well, you are a champion player, and I am sure you will do extremely well back in your home ground.”
He also welcomed Pant back, adding, “Rishabh — Kiran and I are both happy to have you back at DC. Hope you can find your best form back home in Delhi.”

Pant returns to familiar surroundings
Pant returns to the franchise where he built his IPL reputation. Between 2016 and 2024, he made a franchise-record 111 appearances for Delhi Capitals and served as Captain in 43 matches across four seasons before moving to Lucknow Super Giants.
His two seasons with Lucknow proved difficult. The franchise finished seventh in IPL 2025 before ending bottom of the table in 2026, while Pant scored 269 runs in 2025 and 312 runs in 2026 before stepping down as captain ahead of the conclusion of the latter campaign.
Kuldeep begins a new chapter
Kuldeep leaves Delhi Capitals after five successful seasons in which he established himself as one of the side’s most reliable bowlers. The left-arm wrist-spinner claimed 72 wickets in 65 matches before completing his move to Lucknow Super Giants.
The trade reunites Delhi Capitals with one of the franchise’s most influential former players as preparations continue for the 2027 season. Pant will now look to rediscover his best form in familiar surroundings, while Warner’s reaction has broadened the conversation beyond a single transfer, highlighting how auction strategy, player valuation and long-term squad planning continue to influence decision-making across the IPL.
