Former Glamorgan coach Grant Bradburn has been reprimanded and fined following an investigation into allegations of discriminatory conduct during his tenure with the Welsh county cricket club. The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) found Bradburn guilty of three breaches of Regulation 3.3 of the Professional Conduct Regulations, issuing him a fine of £500 ($648), a caution regarding his future behavior, and a mandate to attend an educational course on discrimination and equality.

Bradburn, who was dismissed by Glamorgan in December 2024 after an internal probe, admitted to making comments with “racist connotations” on two occasions and another with “sexist connotations.” Among the allegations, it was claimed that he questioned Asian players about their “real age,” implying dishonesty regarding their birth dates. Additionally, during a pre-season meeting, he allegedly suggested that in Pakistan, cricket selection decisions were made based on friendships, familial ties, or random choices. During a fielding session, Bradburn reportedly remarked, “this isn’t Western Storm,” a reference to a former women’s team, when he felt male players lacked intensity, equating their throwing to that of girls.

The independent CDC, under adjudicator Tim O’Gorman, handed down the sanctions, emphasizing the responsibility of leaders to foster an inclusive culture. Director of The Cricket Regulator, Chris Haward, reinforced this stance, stating: “There is no place for discrimination in cricket and normalisation of discriminatory language through this kind of conduct is unacceptable. Where such instances are identified they will be investigated and those responsible will be held to account.” He also commended those who reported the misconduct and highlighted the regulator’s commitment to eliminating discrimination from the game.

Glamorgan Cricket has expressed full support for the CDC’s ruling. CEO Dan Cherry affirmed the club’s stance, saying: “Glamorgan Cricket acknowledges and welcomes this decision by the Regulator. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards discriminatory behaviour so as soon as issues were pointed out to us we acted swiftly to protect those affected and show a strong line against poor behaviours that do not reflect the Club’s values.”

“We’re confident that the systems and processes we have in place to identify poor behaviour are working by virtue of the fact that those affected felt able to come forward on these points.”

Before his role at Glamorgan, Bradburn had an extensive coaching career, leading Scotland from 2014 to 2018 and later serving as Pakistan’s fielding coach. In 2023, he briefly assumed the head coach role for Pakistan before leaving within a year. He joined Glamorgan in January 2024 but was dismissed before completing a full year with the club.

The Cricket Regulator has reiterated its dedication to thoroughly investigating discrimination cases and ensuring accountability. It acknowledged the courage of those who spoke out and emphasized that addressing such issues remains a top priority for the sport.
