Haider Azhar confident in Karachi Kings’ planning as team heads into playoffs
Haider Azhar, Director of Karachi Kings, has expressed pride in the franchise’s team-building strategy and player development following the conclusion of the HBL PSL 10 group stage.
Speaking after the team’s final league match—a loss to Islamabad United—Haider said he remains confident in the structure and selections that led the Kings to the playoffs.
“Alhamdulillah, we’re very satisfied with our draft planning — especially in terms of team balance. We’re one of the few sides that gave chances to all 18 players during the season,” Haider noted. “The conditions in Karachi were different than expected, but we had covered our bases for both spin- and pace-friendly tracks.”
Draft gamble pays off with local talent
Haider emphasized a bold strategic move taken during the draft—backing local middle and lower-order players, a traditionally underperforming segment in Pakistan T20 cricket.
“We took a calculated risk by backing local talent where Pakistani players have often struggled,” he said. “Khushdil Shah was brilliant, and Irfan Khan Niazi also contributed well. We’re proud of how our squad performed across departments.”
Karachi Kings’ decade-long investment in youth development
Haider also underscored the franchise’s long-term commitment to nurturing young talent—a legacy that extends across 10 seasons of the Pakistan Super League.
“Karachi Kings has always prioritized talent development. If you look at our history, players like Mir Hamza, Shahnawaz Dahani, Irfan Khan Niazi, Abbas Afridi, and Abrar Ahmed all started their journeys with us. These are not just names—they’re success stories.”
He also highlighted the success of the team’s talent hunt program, especially its outreach to underrepresented areas.
“Last year, our northern-region talent hunt discovered Fawad Ali, a young fast bowler who hit 149 km/h in this tournament. We remain committed to unearthing and nurturing new talent.”
Focus shifts to Eliminator clash against Lahore Qalandars
With the group stage wrapped up, Karachi Kings will now face Lahore Qalandars in the Eliminator on May 22 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. A win will keep their PSL 10 title hopes alive.
