The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are working to bring India’s delayed white-ball tour of Bangladesh back onto the calendar, with both boards exploring a new window for the three-ODI and three-T20I series.
The proposed tour has already been rescheduled more than once, but discussions over staging the six matches remain active. According to Cricinfo, the BCB has received a positive response from the BCCI and the series is likely to be played early next year.
BCB and BCCI continue talks over India tour
The latest discussions provide renewed momentum for a bilateral assignment that was initially scheduled for August 2025 before being moved to September 2026. No revised dates have yet been formally announced by either board.
BCB President Tamim Iqbal said, as quoted by Cricinfo: “All I can tell you is that both the cricket boards are in discussion.”
Iqbal added: “It is a fruitful talk, and I am hopeful this will happen.”
The series had been announced by the BCB in January as a six-match white-ball tour, but its position on the calendar subsequently became uncertain. Finding another opening now requires the two boards to work around their respective commitments.
Speaking to Not Out Noman, Iqbal said: “There are certain things that are beyond our control. And I never want to cross that line as BCB president, okay? But intentions are good, we are continuously communicating. Dates are also being figured out, because Bangladesh is also busy, they are also busy.”
He continued: “Bangladesh has three series in between. They also, India, BCCI stay very busy with their matches. But we are having a regular discussion regarding this.”
January emerges as potential window
A date early in 2027 is now under consideration, although the series has not yet been confirmed for that period. A BCCI source told ANI: “The India-Bangladesh series is likely to be held in January. Discussions with the government are still ongoing, while the BCB is now seeking a window at the beginning of next year.”
The BCCI has yet to announce a revised itinerary for the Bangladesh tour, leaving the precise dates and venues unresolved.
Cricket ties show signs of improvement
Efforts to revive the tour follow a difficult period in cricket relations between Bangladesh and India. Relations between the boards deteriorated further earlier this year following the controversy surrounding Mustafizur Rahman’s release from Kolkata Knight Riders.
The dispute subsequently became connected to Bangladesh’s absence from the 2026 T20 World Cup, a separate issue that Iqbal has addressed publicly since becoming BCB President.
More recently, relations between the two boards have shown signs of improvement. Iqbal travelled to India earlier in August and reportedly visited the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru as the BCB and BCCI continued engagement over their cricket relationship.
For now, the six-match tour remains without confirmed dates. The continuing discussions and consideration of an early-2027 window keep the three ODIs and three T20Is in contention for the 2026-27 season.
