Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the Champions Trophy 2025 has sparked harsh criticism from former captain Moin Khan, who has called for a complete overhaul of the national team. He has taken aim at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), blaming poor selection policies, favouritism, and a lack of accountability for the team’s failure.
Moin Khan made his stance clear, emphasizing that Pakistan needs fresh talent, hard work, and major structural changes to return to winning ways. Speaking to the media in Karachi, he stated: “The team that works hard is the one that wins.”
He also pointed out how the PCB previously promised “surgery” after Pakistan’s T20 World Cup debacle, yet no significant changes were made. “At that time, surgery didn’t happen either. We need to make tough decisions now,” he said, urging decisive action.
The former wicketkeeper criticized the PCB’s handling of player selections, accusing them of favouring underperforming players while overlooking deserving talent. He further slammed the board for being run by non-technical individuals, arguing that ex-cricketers should be in charge rather than those with personal interests.
Taking aim at the overall decision-making process in Pakistan cricket, Moin Khan remarked: “Decisions are made first, and then the job advertisements come out. The PCB chairman is nominated, and the governing board elects the nominated chairman.”
He also urged Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to intervene and implement necessary reforms to stop Pakistan cricket’s downward spiral.
Babar Azam, Pakistan’s star batter, was not spared from criticism either. While acknowledging his talent, Moin Khan advised him to adapt and evolve if he wants to reach new heights in his career. “Babar Azam is a good player, but he needs to transform himself. He should evolve like Virat Kohli has,” he said, urging Babar to take a more professional approach.
He stressed that senior players who have consistently failed should step aside to make way for emerging talent. “The team now needs new blood,” he asserted.
With the Champions Trophy exposing the same recurring issues in Pakistan cricket, Moin Khan warned that without immediate and meaningful changes, the team risks falling further behind on the global stage.
