PSL broadcasting rights open for bidding ahead of new four-year cycle

With an eye on expanding the commercial footprint of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated the process to sell domestic media rights for the next four editions of the tournament. According to a report by ProPakistani, the new rights cycle will cover the 2026 to 2029 seasons.

The PCB officially announced on Thursday that it had released a call for applications from prospective broadcasters and digital platforms interested in acquiring the rights. The media rights package includes both television broadcasting and live streaming within Pakistan.

Domestic-only rights on offer; international excluded

As clarified in the PCB’s statement, the rights currently up for bidding are restricted to the domestic market and do not extend to international broadcast territories. This focus on the local viewership market aligns with the board’s strategy to strengthen national-level engagement while securing lucrative, long-term broadcast partnerships.

Interested parties have until February 4 to submit their bids. Once the deadline passes, the process will proceed to the next evaluation and negotiation phase.

Strengthening PSL’s commercial value

The PSL has established itself as Pakistan’s premier sporting league since its inception, and media rights remain its most valuable revenue stream. According to the ProPakistani report, 95% of the income generated from these rights is distributed among the franchises, making this bidding cycle particularly significant for all stakeholders.

The PCB emphasized that securing stable, multi-year media partnerships is crucial for the league’s continued growth and sustainability.

Previous media rights holders

During the current 2024–2025 cycle, A Sports holds the television rights, while digital streaming is managed by Walee Technology. Both of these agreements were signed for two-year terms. The upcoming four-year rights cycle marks a strategic shift toward longer-term deals, offering bidders more stability and engagement across multiple seasons.

By opening the bidding process well in advance of the 2026 season, the PCB aims to lock in commitments that will not only bolster financial security but also help enhance production quality, fan engagement, and PSL’s stature as a marquee T20 competition in the region.
