RCB spotlight sustainability with green jerseys against RR

Must Read

In a compelling blend of sportsmanship and environmental responsibility, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have once again donned their iconic green jerseys, underscoring their unwavering commitment to sustainability. This initiative, part of their annual ‘Go Green’ campaign, is more than a mere change in attire; it’s a clarion call for ecological consciousness.

“For us it is about being bold, both on and off the pitch. Our green jerseys are more than just a symbol; they are a call to action. As proud representatives of the Garden City, sustainability is a natural priority for us. Through this initiative, we aim to leverage the cultural and social power of RCB to drive awareness and inspire fans to take small steps towards conservation,” said Rajesh Menon, COO, Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

RCB’s green jerseys, crafted from recycled stadium waste, epitomize their dedication to environmental stewardship. Each match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium generates approximately eight tons of waste, including dry, food, and recyclable materials. Through meticulous waste segregation and recycling processes, this refuse is transformed into the very fabric of the team’s green kits.

Beyond the pitch, RCB’s sustainability efforts are comprehensive. The franchise conducts regular carbon audits, assessing emissions from various operations, including player and staff travel, stadium energy consumption, and fan commutes. These evaluations inform strategies to mitigate their carbon footprint, such as utilizing renewable energy sources like solar and wind power at their home ground.

Community engagement is a cornerstone of RCB’s environmental initiatives. The team has spearheaded projects like lake rejuvenation in South Bengaluru and the Green School certification program, which has reached nearly 200 schools. Through these efforts, RCB not only promotes sustainability but also fosters a culture of environmental responsibility among the youth.

RCB’s ‘Go Green’ campaign transcends cricket, positioning the franchise as a leader in sports-driven environmental advocacy. By integrating sustainability into their core values and operations, RCB sets a precedent for other sports organizations worldwide, demonstrating that athletic excellence and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand.
