Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer and Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya have been fined for slow over-rate violations during Qualifier 2 of the TATA IPL 2025, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Second offence for Iyer, third for Pandya under IPL Code of Conduct

Iyer was fined INR 24 lakh after Punjab Kings were found to have maintained a slow over rate. It marked the team’s second such offence this season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct for minimum over rates.

The remaining Playing XI members, including the Impact Player, were each fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever amount was lower.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya faced a heftier penalty, as it was Mumbai Indians’ third slow over-rate offence of IPL 2025. He was fined INR 30 lakh.

The other players in Mumbai’s Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, depending on which was the lesser amount.

IPL enforces strict measures for over-rate compliance

The IPL Code of Conduct has increasingly focused on over-rate compliance, with escalating penalties for repeat offences. Captains bear the brunt of financial penalties and, in severe cases, risk match suspensions.

With the high-stakes Qualifier 2 clash between PBKS and MI now also marked by disciplinary action, teams will be looking to tighten their time management in future games.
