Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed former India National Team Fielding Coach R. Sridhar to lead a specialized 10-day fielding program aimed at enhancing the fielding standards across all national and development squads.
The high-performance initiative, which began on May 7, will span the men’s and women’s national teams, Emerging squads, Premier Club players, the National U19 team, and the Women’s ‘A’ team. The goal is to implement modern fielding techniques and match-scenario training to prepare Sri Lankan cricketers for elite international competition.
R. Sridhar brings world-class experience to Sri Lanka
R. Sridhar, a BCCI Level 3 qualified coach, is one of the most respected fielding specialists in world cricket. He served as India’s fielding coach from 2014 to 2021, overseeing more than 300 international matches during a highly successful period for Indian cricket.
In this 10-day program, Sridhar will focus on fielding drills, skill-specific training modules, and game-situation simulations, beginning with the Sri Lanka National Men’s team before extending sessions to other squads.
Program to include national, high performance, and club-level players
The fielding program will see Sridhar collaborating closely with the National Coaching staff, High Performance Centre personnel, and Premier Club Coaches. His holistic approach is expected to unify fielding philosophies across all levels of the domestic and international system in Sri Lanka.
SLC’s decision to involve players and coaches from across the domestic pyramid underlines the board’s renewed focus on fielding as a key performance area—crucial in the modern game, especially in white-ball formats.
The initiative is part of a broader high-performance strategy aimed at returning Sri Lanka to the top tier of international cricket, with fielding consistency and intensity seen as vital components in that journey.
