KINGSTON, Jamaica – 16 July 2025: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named a 16-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, featuring first-time call-ups for rising stars Jewel Andrew and Jediah Blades. The series runs from July 20–28, with matches scheduled at Sabina Park in Jamaica and Warner Park in St. Kitts.
This announcement comes as part of West Indies’ preparations for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, with Head Coach Daren Sammy emphasizing continuity, momentum, and strategy in squad selection.
New faces and familiar names in dynamic squad
Jewel Andrew, an 18-year-old batting prospect and backup wicketkeeper, has earned his first T20I call-up after impressing selectors with his range against spin and intent at the crease. Jediah Blades, a left-arm seamer, made his international debut in 2024 and was a standout in the inaugural West Indies Breakout League, known for his powerplay breakthroughs.
Veteran players Shai Hope (Captain), Jason Holder, Rovman Powell, and Akeal Hosein return, anchoring a squad built to refine West Indies’ explosive brand of T20 cricket.
Daren Sammy: “We want to regain our form at home”
Head Coach Daren Sammy underlined the team’s World Cup ambitions:
“Our goals and strategic plans are aligned to winning the T20 World Cup in 2026. We have continuity in the squad from the previous series and as a unit we will continue to fine-tune our style and brand ahead of the World Cup.”
He also stressed the importance of improving the team’s home record:
“Our previous two T20 series at home we were on the wrong end of the results, but starting against Australia, we want to regain our form at home as we build momentum into next year’s World Cup.”
