CSA: North West honoured to receive Division 1 cricket status

Must Read

North West Cricket is proud to have been chosen as part of the top 8 teams of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) domestic cricket structure. North West Cricket (NWC) will compete with the top unions in Division 1 in a new and exciting domestic structure.

The announcement came on Monday 8 March during a virtual CSA press conference. Pre the press conference, the various cricket unions presented a detailed strategic plan to a CSA Restructuring committee, who’s decision was then approved by the CSA Interim Board. NWC now forms part of the Top 8 teams set to play Division 1 cricket for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.

NWC is extremely proud to be part of the new CSA Domestic structure. “This announcement comes at the back of a highly competitive bid process that compelled us to pay close attention to all the factors that are necessary to ensure sustainable, professional cricket teams countrywide,” said HP Prinsloo, Chief Executive Officer of NWC.

“As the official custodians of cricket in the province, North West cricket is fully committed to upholding its core values which are supported by continuous efforts to create opportunities and build support structures that make cricket accessible to all. The new domestic structure will not only strengthen and solidify our existing relationships, but also open avenues for us to form new bonds,” Prinsloo concludes.

For years, North West has made sure that it constructs world class facilities which made it possible to deliver world standard sporting events. “It is through this record of excellence that Potchefstroom has affirmed its position as the preferred training ground for international teams to train during their off-season period,” Archie Pretorius the Administrator of NWC stated.

Early this year, NWC hosted a successful first-class tournament in a Bio-Secure Environment (BSE). “We look forward to hosting the Semi-pro BSE in a week’s time,” Pretorius said.

North West has acted as a strong conduit for growth and development over the past couple of years. Former NW Dragons Men players have been afforded opportunities to play for franchise teams all over the country and some have been called to represent the country as part of the Proteas team in all formats of the game. Our Senwes Dragons Women’s team has been solidly impressive, securing major sponsorships, winning championships consistently and receiving callouts to join the Proteas Women team.

Pretorius concludes: “North West Cricket understands that being added to the new domestic structure comes with the responsibility of establishing an organisation that is transparent to our members and affiliates. There is a clear understanding that to achieve success, NW Cricket administration must be supported by solid finances and good governance, with confidence and credibility from the North West Cricket community.”

NWC aims to make cricket available to all who want to play this beautiful game. The main objective of the union is the transformation and development of amateur and professional cricket by providing opportunities and other resources in order to promote, organise, control, administer, foster, encourage and provide facilities for the game of cricket.

This well-deserved promotion to the big stage hold exciting times ahead for cricket in Potchefstroom.
