Cricket has scored in the NSW Government’s latest major sports infrastructure grant programs – the Regional Sport Facility Fund (RSFF) and Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund (GCSFF).
In a massive coup for the sport, Cricket in NSW will benefit from over $14.5m in State Government funding toward facility developments via Round 1 of the RSFF and GCSFF.
The grants are designed to increase the number and type of sporting facilities in the state, improve the standard of existing sporting facilities and increase participation in sport.
Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon was full of praise for the funding and the impact it will have on local communities and the game of cricket.
“We really want to acknowledge and thank the NSW Government for its ongoing commitment to community sporting and cricket infrastructure across metropolitan and regional NSW,” Germon said.
“A greater volume and quality of facilities can only help us inspire everyone to play and love cricket.
“While we congratulate all the successful applicants both inside and outside of our sport, we encourage the cricket community to take advantage of these grant opportunities in the future to build better infrastructure and facilities.”
Round 2 of the RSFF and GCSFF are set to open in the 21/22 financial year.
Of the successful recipients lists, the following significant infrastructure projects for cricket have received funding to the tune of more than $5M.
Regional Sport Facility Fund
– Port Stephens Council – Tomaree Regional Sports Complex upgrade ($262,127)
– Port Stephens Council – King Park Regional Sports Complex upgrade ($842,330)
– Queanbeyan District Cricket Club Inc – Provision of women’s change rooms at Freebody Oval ($847,000)
Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund
– Campbelltown City Council – Raby Sports Complex – Indoor Cricket Centre ($800,000)
– Mosman Council – Allan Border Oval – Pavilion and landscaping project ($500,000)
– Penrith City Council – Installation of a new irrigation system and playing surface at The Kingsway, Werrington ($300,000)
– The Hills Shire Council – Upgrade of floodlighting, drainage, irrigation, retaining walls, turfing and fencing at Kenthurst Park ($511,000)
– Wollondilly Shire Council – Tahmoor District Sporting Complex – Multi-purpose amenities facility ($1,000,000)
