On Wednesday, 11August 2021 the Central Gauteng Lions hosted a successful 44th Annual General Meeting which was attended virtually by a packed house of shareholders showcasing their commitment to the Province and good Governance.

The 2020/21 season has been undoubtably the most challenging and traumatic rollercoaster we have faced in our lifetime. But in a turning of the tide, last evening’s AGM was indicative of true South African strength: Outstanding attendance and energy, loyal support, constructive, passionate and aligned to the vision of moving CGL forward.

The Lions Family would like to thank all who attended: How refreshing to laugh, be positive, feel the love and celebrate shared values.

Mashilo Matsetela was elected as the Chairperson to lead the Audit Committee. We also welcomed a new Honorary Life Vice President Mr Mohamed Azher Saloojee, a well-known former sportsman and personality and political activist in the greater Johannesburg area, particularly Lenasia. Mr Saloojee has played a big role in cricket within our Province for many years and continues to play an active role in the sport today.

The overall spirit and manor in which the AGM took place is a tremendous indicator of the CGL brand and the support of its Members Council as we head into a year that, not withstanding its challenges, will see records broken, PB’s achieved and matches won on field and off.

On Thursday morning, the CGL Board nominated Mrs Anne Vilas to remain as the Union’s President, Mr Earl Glennistor as the Vice President, Mrs Ziyanda Ngcobo as the Lead Independent Director and Dr Steven Firer as the Chairperson of the Finance Committee. The confidence shown by the Board in these individuals is testament to their leadership over the past year. The continuity in CGL’s EXCO and leadership team together with the other wonderful Board members bodes well for the future of CGL, players, our sponsors, fans and all stakeholders involved. We are proud of our pride and look forward to being the Pride of Jozi both on and off the field in all we do. CGL is excited to continue to strive for excellence and make decisions that always aligns to its three guiding principles of Choices – Governance – Longevity.
