On Thursday 14 October, Philip van Dok, former chairman of the board and Member of Merit of the KNCB, passed away at the age of 86.
Partly due to his administrative contribution, this rightfully earned him the title Member of Merit of the KNCB in 1981. Philip not only left his mark as a member of the board of the KNCB, but he was also a true icon at CC Haarlem/Bloemendaal and many other cricket-related companies.
As an 18-year-old, he became a member of CC Haarlem and has since then been concerned with the development of the youth and the growth of the club. From 1960 to 1979, ‘Flip’ held just about all existing managerial positions within his club. Under his leadership in the seventies, the association flourished with no fewer than four senior teams: a veteran and women’s team, but also a large youth section. Relations with hockey club Bloemendaal were excellent, and due to his participation in the Bloemendaal Sports Council, cricket was prominently on the agenda there.
In addition, Flip became the face of Cricket Touring Club ‘De Flamingo’s’ and as chairman he was involved for many years in the growth and development of a large group of Dutch cricketers who, both as hosts in the Netherlands and during tours in England, wore the colors of ‘De Vogels’ represented with verve and later became international. Binnenhof CC, the cricket company linked to the political backdrop in The Hague, was also one of the clubs where Philip liked to show himself both inside and outside the boundary lines.
The Dutch cricket world has lost ‘a true gentleman’. Philip van Dok passed away peacefully in the midst of family and loved ones. The board and employees of the KNCB wish all relatives a lot of strength and strength.
