Sydney Sixers: Henriques – I have absolute faith in our team to do the job

Moises Henriques has full confidence that the Sydney Sixers have what it takes to win BBL|11 and secure a third straight Big Bash title.

The Sixers were this week denied a request to add former captain Steve Smith to their squad ahead of the Qualifier against the Scorchers on Saturday night.

While Henriques and the Sixers were disappointed with the decision, he knows the Sixers already have a strong squad, and adding Smith would have been a bonus.

“We are in the top two without Steve, and we haven’t had three overseas players for the four matches we have played,” said Henriques.

“I have absolute belief in our domestic and local talent to do the job.”

The Qualifier between Sydney and Perth will be played at a neutral venue in Melbourne, but win or lose the Sixers will play the next match back in their home city.

Henriques is hopeful that they are able to book a spot in the final and play the decider in front of a home crowd again.

“We are looking forward to playing back in Sydney, we’ll be even more excited for it if it is the final,” said Henriques.

“It will be nice to get back to Sydney either way, but a good result against the Scorchers means an exciting week ahead for us.

“If we don’t get the result we are after, then we are hosting the knockout for another chance to get into the Final.

Like many of his teammates, Henriques has fond memories of playing  last year’s Final in front of a sea of magenta at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Sixers’ skipper would love nothing more than to be able to do the same this year after another COVID-affected season.

“That final last year at the SCG was one of the best atmospheres I have ever played cricket in front of,” said Henriques.

“Anything even close to that would be a pretty special affair.”
