We’re looking for a Psychologist to support and partner with our National Men’s team as part of our High Performance & National team department within Cricket Australia (CA). This role will lead and develop Australian Cricket (AC) Psychology Network (performance) in alignment with CA objectives.

Reporting to the Senior Mental Health and Performance Manager you’ll be responsible for managing and leading best practice Performance Psychology service provision (mental health & performance) with Australian Men’s Team.

About the role

Your key responsibilities will include:

The National Men’s Team and male CA contracted players servicing requirement (primary role requirements):

  • Meet Australian Cricket Performance Plan (ACPP) goals and Sports Science & Sports Medicine (SSSM) department objectives
  • Meet ACPP Performance Psychology requirements as they relate to all players
  • Manage player Performance Psychology related performance and welfare needs
  • Conduct and debrief any desired mental health screening and/or performance profiling and respond to mental health screening according to Australian Cricket protocols
  • Review Individual Player Performance (IPP) plans (or equivalent) and address any mental or character related priorities, and work with lead coaches to assist in addressing performance related matters
  • Provide players with psychological counselling related to their performance which may include interventions drawn from performance enhancement, performance restoration and/or mental health frameworks. The psychological counselling may address concerns which relate to on-field and/or off-field outcomes.
  • Collaborate with key leaders of the Australian Men’s Team (staff and players) to contribute towards a performance environment that facilitates leadership, team cohesion and performance.
  • Address proactively any personal/wellbeing related issues and employ best practice intervention protocols (and case management where appropriate)
  • Maintain regular contact and monitoring of players, and communicate relevant information to SSSM colleagues and coaches, subject to ethical guidelines/ limitations
  • Collaborate with coaching and/or support staff to achieve specific performance and/or wellbeing objectives
  • Collaborate with National Women’s Team Psychologist and Senior Mental Health and Performance Manager to create informed psychological practice which has impact on individual, team and system outcomes
  • Where players have sustained an injury that impacts on training status consult with the player and the relevant medical staff; and provide a Return to Play (RTP) psychological support/intervention plan.
  • Complete RTP Mental Health plan on the Athlete Management System (AMS) in accordance with the CA mental health management guidelines

    Communication and Record Keeping:
  • Document all formal consultations and performance related information on the AMS in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all personal case notes in accordance with the guidelines stipulated in the APS Code of Ethics

    Ensure Australian Cricket performance psychology protocols and direction is aligned with CA objectives and team performance strategy
  • Advise and collaborate with CA Senior Mental Health & Performance Manager, Head of SSSM, and EGM HP/NT regarding key psychology goals and focus areas.
  • Lead and collaborate with the Australian State and Territory psychology network to ensure the ACPP requirements can be met by each Psychologist.

    Strategic Alignment of Performance Psychology protocols and systems throughout AC
  • Oversee development and ensure implementation of best practice performance psychology protocols and systems to aid in performance, and psychological health & wellbeing at all levels of the Australian Cricket pathway programs

    Performance Psychology Resource for AC
  • Provide leadership and advice to all relevant stakeholders
  • Provide regular updates to State and National SSSM staff, coaches and other parties regarding any developments in psychological research, protocols or processes that will influence performance.

    Provision of performance Psychology expertise
  • Oversee development of education programs, resources, and associated protocols to develop performance related mental skills which may include coach development
  • Support senior players and team management in development and implementation of team values and associated activities

    About you

    You’ll have:
  • An ongoing record of relevant continuing professional development over the past 12 months (minimum of 30 hours, as stipulated by the APS, or equivalent demonstration of professional development)
  • Eligibility for full membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS College of Sport & Exercise Psychology endorsement would be preferable)
  • Five (5) or more years demonstrated experience practicing in Sport Psychology with elite athletes and coaches
  • Experience working with national sporting programs
  • Demonstrated post-supervision experience in counselling or clinical psychology practice including assessment, diagnosis and treatment
