Following another successful Annual General Meeting where the successes of the previous season were highlighted, the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union will head into the upcoming season with a revitalised confidence to grow on the solid foundation that has been created.

Towards the back-end of 2021, the KZN Cricket Union were given a boost when CEO Heinrich Strydom renewed his contract a further five years giving the Union a thread of continuity going forward into the post Covid-19 era.

The governing bodies were happy with the position that the Union is currently in and given the devastation that was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the KZN Cricket Union remains in a strong position financially.

“We are proud that KwaZulu-Natal Cricket has survived a global crisis and we can now shift our focus to growing cricket across the province and welcoming spectators back to Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium,” KZN Cricket President Yunus Bobat said.

“The administrators and players are continuously raising the bar to be leaders in all aspects and set the example for the rest of the country.”

For Honorary Life Vice President of the KZN Cricket Union and former President of the Union Rob Kurz, cricket in KZN is in a very good place.

“We haven’t seen the KZN Cricket Union in such a solid place financially for a very long time and that is a testament to Heinrich and his team and all the hard work that they put in,” Kurz said.

“Long may it continue and we are excited to see the Union continuing to raise the bar both on and off the field.”

Strydom joined the KZNCU in 2017 and has been the spearhead of many projects both cosmetic and structural at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium that would streamline operations and give spectators a unique match-day experience.

“We’re putting plans in place that will leave the KZN Cricket Union in a better place than when we found it,” Strydom said.

“The team here is a passionate, hard-working unit focussed on continuous improvement which has contributed to the success of the Union both on and off the field in recent years.

“I am particularly proud of the number of KZN players selected to represent the various national teams and incredibly proud of all our players who have produced stand out performances for the Proteas and Momentum Proteas this last year.

“There are a number of new and exciting projects that we will be implementing going forward to enhance the cricket experience for stakeholders across the cricket pipeline and especially for our fans who we cannot wait to see back in the stands,” Strydom added.
