The Durban’s Super Giants announced their arrival to South African shores with an official jersey launch held on Monday at Kingsmead Stadium.

As one of the six exciting franchises to play in the upcoming SA20 league, the Durban’s Super Giants received a warm Durban welcome from eminent local government authorities like Eric Apelgren and sporting superstars from the Dolphins and Sharks like Lukhanyo Am, Phepsi Buthelezi and Kerwin Bosch who attended this event which was a great spectacle. The event was preceded by two impactful announcements – the proclamation of SA superstar Quinton de Kock as the Captain and the addition of the veteran Jonty Rhodes to the existing coaching setup of local

legend, Lance Klusener, and bowling phenomenon, Morne Morkel.

The Durban’s Super Giants jersey was a significant step in a new direction for the RPSG Group, owners of the popular IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants. Drawing inspiration from the colours of the South African flag and the national symbol, the jersey also featured patterns that pay homage to the countless artists that call Durban their home.

Representing the Durban’s Super Giants was their CEO, Mr. Vinod Bisht, who said, “Our family has become bigger with the addition of the Durban’s Super Giants and we are excited to represent this vibrant city in one of the most sought after leagues in the world”.

It was also succeeded by a message from the owner, Mr. Shashwat Goenka, who announced “Durban was the obvious choice for us, not just because of its love for cricket but because it is a symbol of innovation, youthful exuberance and the true spirit of South Africa”.

What followed was a surprise reveal of Keshav Maharaj, Prenelan Subrayen and Quinton de Kock proudly sporting the new jersey and a fun Q&A session with them. When asked about DSG’s strength as a side, Keshav said “We are a very balanced side and have all our bases covered but what will differentiate us is the fun & enjoyment factor – We intend

to make Kingsmead our fortress”.

If the jersey launch is a sign of things to come, the Durban’s Super Giants and indeed the SA20 league will be one to watch out for.
