Cricket South Africa (CSA) has suspended Northern Cape Heat’s Andrew Rasemene and AET Tuskers’ Malcolm Nofal from first-class cricket after being found guilty of breaching CSA Code of Conduct.
The pair were charged following an incident that took place during the One-day Cup Division 2 match between Northern Cape Heat and AET Tuskers at the Diamond Oval, Kimberley on 08 December 2022.
This as a result of a disciplinary report lodged by the umpires, Jurie Sadler and Roderick Ellis for an alleged breach of clause 6.3.1 and clause 6.5.1 of the Code of Conduct, respectively. A video clip of the incident was also provided as evidence.
Rasemene’s breach of the Code of Conduct relates to a Level 4 charge under Clause 6.5.1:
- Physical assault of another Participant or spectator;
Nofal’s breach of the Code of Conduct relates to a Level 2 charge under Clause 6.3.1:
- Inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play;
The sanction for a Level 4 offense is a suspension of five First Class matches (applicable to Tests, four-day, or three-day matches), alternatively ten 1-Day/T20 matches (applicable to One-Day/T20 Internationals and Domestic One Day/T20 matches at all levels) or a life ban for the participant concerned.
The penalty for a Level 2 offense is a suspension for one First Class match (applicable to a Test, four day or three day match alternatively two 1-Day/T20 matches (applicable to One-Day/T20 Internationals and Domestic One Day/T20 matches at all levels) and/or a fine the equivalent of between 50 and 100 percent of the current Pay for Play match fee in the relevant format.
Nofal and Rasemene admitted to the charges and accepted the sanctions proposed by Prof. Rian Cloete, the CSA Disciplinary Commissioner.
The sanction stipulates that Nofal will be ineligible for selection in the upcoming 4-Day Series match against Eastern Cape Iinyathi due to be played from 09 – 12 February 2023.
Meanwhile, Rasemene will be ineligible for selection for the forthcoming CSA Division 2: 4-Day Series Match against Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers due to be played from 02 – 05 March 2023, and ineligible for selection for the forthcoming CSA Division 2: 4-Day Series Match against Eastern Storm due to be played from 23 – 26 February 2023.
