The inaugural Betway SA20 has seen an unparalleled amount of excellent performances in its maiden season.
The tournament organisers have therefore introduced a selection of special awards that will honour the outstanding individuals.
There will be six awards in total, ranging from the Player of the Season, Batter of the Season, Bowler of the Season, 2023 Rising Star, Spirit of Cricket and Groundsman of the Season that will be announced after the completion of the final at the Wanderers on Saturday, February 11.
- Player of the Season
This is a first-of-its-kind award with Betway SA20 devising a unique scoring system. The winner will be the leader of the overall Most Valuable Player (MVP) scoring system, which will take into account all of its inputs (ie. batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy, player of the match awards and being on the winning team).
- Batter of the season
This award will be unlike any other regular batting prize where the leading run-scorer is customarily the winner. Instead this will be determined by the leader of the filtered results of the overall MVP list taking into account only the batting points tally.
- Bowler of the season
The bowling award will also be determined by the leader of the filtered results of the overall MVP list taking into account only the bowling points tally.
- 2023 Rising Star
Only players under 25-years-old or less on 10 January 2023 will be in contention for this award. It will be determined from the leader from the overall MVP list.
- Spirit of Cricket
The official Betway SA20 match referees and umpires will rate this on a game-to-game basis taking into the spirit of the game, respect to opposition, respect to umpires and respect for laws of the game.
- Groundsman of the Season
The official Betway SA20 match referee will award scores post-game on the quality of the pitch and outfield conditions and its suitability of the T20 format.
