Bio

Givemore Makoni is currently the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket. His appointment was confirmed unanimously by the Board in December 2020. Prior to his confirmation, he was serving in acting capacity since September 2018.

From 2018 to 2020, Makoni successfully spearheaded a restructuring exercise designed to address Zimbabwe Cricket’s perennial viability challenges and to forge a sustainable financial and cricket future. He was at the forefront of implementing an intricate debt resolution plan which resulted in Zimbabwe Cricket paying off debts amounting to US$27million that had been hampering the organization.

Under Makoni’s guidance, Zimbabwe Cricket strongly revived its cricket structures. He spearheaded the launches of an elite national club competition (the National Premier League) as well as two women’s inter-provincial tournaments (the Fifty50 challenge and the Women’s T20 cup).

Makoni played club cricket in Zimbabwe and England before working in a local bank. He then joined Mashonaland Cricket Association as a General Manager. His administration experience includes stints as Chief Executive Officer at Southern Rocks and Mountaineers franchises before he was elevated to the Zimbabwe Cricket executive team as the director for the development and club cricket and later as head of cricket affairs.

Makoni has been involved in cricket for over 3 decades, first rising to national prominence in 1990, when he Co-Founded the Takashinga Cricket Club, Zimbabwe’s first black cricket club that produced dozens of international players. He has also served Zimbabwe Cricket as the national team manager and as a convener of selectors.

Makoni is also a member of ICC Chief Executives’ Committee.

Makoni holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Sport Science and Management.
