Touted Australian cricket’s next big thing, Joel Davies has put pen to paper, signing with the Sydney Sixers for the next three years.

One of the strongest products to emerge from the NSW pathway in recent years, the 19-year-old made his Big Bash debut alongside older brother Ollie at Sydney Thunder last summer.

A talented allrounder, Davies is a powerful left-hander, crafty left-arm orthodox spinner, as well as an athletic fielder.

Captaining the NSW Metro side at the Male U19 National Championships in December last year, Davies excelled, leading the run-scoring with 458 runs, including 2 centuries and a high score of 185 not out, in addition to collecting 8 wickets.

In February, the young gun was named captain of Australia’s U19 team, defeating England’s U19 side in their ‘Ashes Series’ in Brisbane.

Earning himself a NSW rookie contract for the summer ahead, Davies was most recently named by the National Selection Panel to attend the MRF Academy in India earlier this month.

Presented the opportunity to move across town, Davies said he was thrilled to join the Sixers.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity ahead.” Davies said.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity with the Thunder last season and I loved getting to play alongside Ollie, but I can’t wait to get started with the Sixers.

“The Sixers are a team that have seen a lot of success over the years so I’m excited to get amongst the group and learn as much as I can.”

Speaking about securing the signature of Davies, Head of Sydney Sixers, Rachael Haynes said:

“Joel is an exciting young talent and one of the most promising products to emerge from the state pathway in recent years.

“He’s a talented allrounder and someone that has shown strong leadership potential, captaining the Australian U19 squad last summer.

“Joel is a quality person in addition to a quality cricketer, and someone we think will be a great fit for our group.”

The Sixers will open their KFC BBL|13 season taking on the Melbourne Renegades on Friday, December 8 at the SCG. Tickets for the Weber WBBL|09 and KFC BBL|13 tickets are on sale now.
