The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opted not to hold a victory parade or celebratory ceremony for the Indian men’s cricket team following their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win. This decision contrasts with the grand reception given to the team after their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup victory in 2024. Upon their return from the West Indies and the USA, the Rohit Sharma-led squad was welcomed with a bus parade attended by thousands, culminating in a star-studded ceremony at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
This time, however, there were no such festivities. Instead, players have begun returning to their respective cities individually. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India’s longer formats, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were greeted with a warm welcome at Mumbai airport on Monday night. Meanwhile, head coach Gautam Gambhir and pacer Harshit Rana landed in New Delhi. Star batter Virat Kohli is also expected to return to India soon.
“All the players with families left from Dubai on Monday. There are some players who have stayed back for a couple of days,” a BCCI source mentioned, according to Geo Super.
The reason behind the separate arrivals is believed to be the players’ commitments to their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, with the 18th season of the lucrative tournament starting on March 22.
Interestingly, the BCCI had also skipped a bus parade after India’s Champions Trophy victory in 2013. Media reports suggest that these parades are traditionally reserved for the team’s World Cup wins on foreign soil.
