Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Kishore Shallow has not yet confirmed if he will seek re-election in March but remains open to continuing his leadership if he has the backing of fellow board members.

Speaking to TVJ Sports Shallow stated:

“When the time is right, I’ll make that decision. I’m considering it and I’m open to going on for another term. It is something that I will decide once I have finished my consultation with the other directors. If the support is there and desire is there for me to continue, then I am committed.”

Elected in March 2023, Shallow’s current two-year term is set to conclude next month. His potential re-election bid comes at a time when CWI has implemented significant governance reforms. During a special meeting in Trinidad on February 9, board members approved a new structure limiting the president and vice-president to a maximum of three terms, each lasting three years.

CWI emphasized that the governance changes aim to introduce fresh leadership, promote continuity, and align with modern best practices. Shallow described the reforms as a major step forward, stating:

“I’m sure it will inspire confidence that the stakeholders have in CWI. As an organisation, we have to remain committed to evolving in every aspect, and governance reform is only one. But this is certainly promising and great progress for the organisation.”

The meeting in Trinidad also marked the participation of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), both of which had previously boycotted a December 6 governance reform meeting, leading to its adjournment due to lack of quorum. However, both associations confirmed their attendance for the February 9 meeting, engaging in discussions and casting their votes.

Shallow welcomed their involvement, stating:

“I’m happy that both BCA and GCB reps were present and they participated in the exercise. We had great conversation and discussion around governance and other cricket-related matters. And just to be able to ventilate matters as a board and shareholders, I think that is really great.

“We are quite pleased as an entire board with this development for the attendance, and we all ended the meeting in high spirits and confidence that CWI is moving in the right direction.”

Beyond governance matters, Shallow expressed satisfaction with recent performances by the West Indies teams. He applauded the men’s Test victory over Pakistan in January and the women’s series wins against Bangladesh—securing a 2-1 ODI victory and a 3-0 T20 series sweep.

Additionally, he highlighted the strong start to the ongoing West Indies Championship, noting an unprecedented number of centuries in the first two rounds.

“The first-class season is also off to a really great start. After two rounds, I think we have certainly more than ten centuries, a first in the tournament’s history we have been able to see that.

“The reason that is so encouraging is because it means the efforts made in the last few years to improve our infrastructure, facilities, and pitches (are) working, and our batsmen are responding positively to that.

“Also we have had some five-wicket hauls, which shows that the bowlers are getting something out of the pitches.”

With governance reforms in place and on-field performances showing promise, CWI enters a critical phase ahead of its March elections, where Shallow’s future as president remains to be decided.
