Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has ordered a review of the recent decision to reduce the match fees for players and reserves selected for the National T20 Cup. The fees, which were initially slashed by 75%, are expected to be revised back to the previous sum of PKR 40,000 (USD 143) per match for players and PKR 20,000 (USD 71) for reserves.
In the original plan, the fees had been reduced to PKR 10,000 (approximately USD 35) for players and PKR 5,000 (USD 18) for reserves, causing considerable backlash. The reduction sparked a debate in cricket circles, with fans and critics questioning whether the PCB was struggling financially. However, PCB sources have clarified that the cuts were made as a result of an increase in the number of domestic tournaments this season, which provides players with more earning opportunities.
Despite the revised fees, the PKR 40,000 (USD 143) figure still represents a decrease compared to the PKR 60,000 (USD 214) per match that players received in 2022. The National T20 Cup, which kicks off on March 14, will feature 39 matches across three cities—Faisalabad, Lahore, and Multan—with the final scheduled for March 27.
Notably, several prominent Pakistan international cricketers will miss the tournament, as the national team is currently in New Zealand for a series that includes five T20Is and three ODIs.
