Alex Carey will be a Striker for at least the next four BBL seasons.
Carey debuted in blue in BBL|06 and has played an average of 12 games each season since.
In 35 BBL fixtures, Carey has scored 1163 runs at the excellent average of 36.34 and the rapid strike-rate of 129.22.
BBL|07 was Carey’s most prolific. From 11 innings, he scored 443 runs at an average of 49.22 and a strike rate of 141.53.
Carey also took 14 catches and won two Player of the Match awards during BBL|07.
Always contributing when it matters most, Carey caught both openers, Tim Paine and D’Arcy Short, and ran out Matthew Wade during the BBL|07 Final as the Strikers secured their maiden Championship.
He has faced 900 deliveries in Big Bash cricket, scored six half-centuries, one century and finished not out on three occasions.
The triple-figure performance came against the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval as he smashed 100 from 54 deliveries. The second 50 of the innings came from just 22 balls.
During that knock, Carey belted 12 boundaries and sent the ball into the crowd four times.
His high score of 100 is the third highest of any Striker, behind only Jake Weatherald’s 115 and Travis Head’s 101 not out.
Carey’s 171-run partnership with Jake Weatherald against the Hurricanes in BBL07 remains both the highest partnership by the Adelaide Strikers and the highest first-wicket stand. It is also the fifth largest opening partnership in BBL history.
Carey’s century makes him just one of 24 players throughout the BBL to achieve this milestone – he was the 17th to do so.
He has smashed the third highest number of sixes of any Strikers (33), again behind only Weatherald (59) & Head (48).
Overall, Carey has taken 33 catches and snared four stumpings in Big Bash cricket.
A regular member of the Australian limited-overs setup, Carey has taken the field 69 times across One Day and Twenty20 International’s.
In ODI’s, Carey averages 35.72 and has scored 1036 runs. He scored his maiden century in national colours in September of this year, crushing 106 from 114 deliveries on English soil.
In partnership with Glenn Maxwell, the two electric batsmen secured a remarkable series win for Australia as they chased down England’s total of 7/302 with two balls to spare.
At the 2019 ODI World Cup, Carey notched the most runs by a number 7 and the most catches by a wicketkeeper in World Cup history, earning him a place in the 2019 Team of the Tournament.
Carey is also a prodigious talent with the Sherrin, having captained the Greater Western Sydney Giants in a TAC Cup season before the expansion club joined the national competition. Despite missing the final month of the season through injury, Carey won the best and fairest award and was voted best on ground five times.
