Sasha Moloney is the latest long-term player to re-commit to the Hobart Hurricanes, with the right-hander penning a deal that will see her back in purple for Weber WBBL|07.

Although prior to WBBL|06 Moloney was best known as a batter, with the Hurricanes bowling stocks somewhat depleted due to injury last season, Moloney stood up to take a more permanent role with the ball, a season in which she also took her career-best Big Bash figures of 2-12.

Having played all of her Big Bash cricket in purple thus far, the born and bred Tasmanian said she was thrilled when she heard the news that the 2021-22 season would be commencing in Tassie.

“It’s such exciting news for Tasmanian cricket,” Moloney enthused.

“Obviously for us as players, the hub was really tough last year, so this season we’re really lucky that we can play on our home grounds and stay in our own beds for a large chunk of the tournament.  However, even for the other teams who are away from home, it’s great that once they’ve completed their quarantine, they can live with relative freedom like all Tasmanians, and not be confined to the one environment.

“However, even more importantly, the potential overall impact this tournament can have for women’s cricket in Tasmania is huge.  I hope that regardless of our results on-field, off-field we can inspire a larger cohort of future Tasmanian female cricketers to become involved in cricket, to the point where they can genuinely believe that one day it could very well be them out there playing in the Big Bash.”

Moloney joins Nicola Carey, Mignon du Preez, Maisy Gibson, Rachel Priest, Chloe Rafferty, Amy Smith, Naomi Stalenberg, Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman, Belinda Vakarewa and Tayla Vlaeminck as the players announced as being contracted to the Hurricanes for WBBL|07.
