Perth Scorchers’ Weber Women’s Big Bash League team has secured a key member of its bowling attack, with right-arm quick Taneale Peschel signing on for another two years.

Peschel played an important part in the Scorchers’ breakthrough WBBL title last season, performing a variety of roles at different stages of the innings.

Capable of swinging the new ball and armed with variations at the death, Peschel featured in all 14 Perth matches during WBBL|07.

The 27-year-old enjoyed her most productive game of the tournament in the Final against Adelaide Strikers at Optus Stadium, removing stars Dane van Niekerk and Tahlia McGrath to finish with 2-23 from four overs.

Of equal significance was the way Peschel handled the last over of the tournament, conceding just nine runs when Adelaide were still in the mix, to rubber stamp Perth’s first WBBL championship.

Peschel’s tally of 39 wickets places her fifth on the Scorchers’ all-time WBBL wicket-takers list, while she also sits fifth for games played (56).

Reflecting on her new deal, Peschel said:

“I’m stoked to be sticking around for another two years. It’s a great organisation to be part of.

“Winning the WBBL was awesome, but we are hungry for sustained success and want to build on that achievement.

“Being part of the Scorchers family is a privilege and as a team we feel we’re building something special.

“I’m looking forward to playing regularly in front of our Scorchers Members and fans again. The support they’ve shown us throughout two seasons compromised by COVID has been incredible, especially during our Final.”

Perth Scorchers’ WBBL Head Coach Shelley Nitschke said:

“We’re excited to have Pesh on board for another two years.

“She played a big role in our WBBL title last season and has proven herself to be an excellent attacking option for Soph (captain Sophie Devine).

“She bowls with good pace, generates swing and stands up in pressure situations. The way she negotiated the last over of the Final against Adelaide was first class.

“I look forward to seeing her thrive again in WBBL|08.”

With Peschel re-signing, the Scorchers have five local list spots to fill ahead of WBBL|08.

Perth Scorchers’ WBBL Squad: Mathilda Carmichael, Piepa Cleary, Sophie Devine (NZ – captain), Maddy Green (NZ), Marizanne Kapp (RSA), Alana King, Lilly Mills, Beth Mooney, Taneale Peschel, Chloe Piparo.
