Sydney Sixers duo Angela Reakes and Emma Hughes are set to miss the upcoming Weber WBBL|08 season.

Reakes will sit out the upcoming summer following the birth of her first child Winnie with partner Courtney in August, while Hughes will also be sidelined for the season following a confirmed ACL injury.

A foundation member of the Sixers, Reakes spent three summers in Sydney before joining the Stars in WBBL|04. The allrounder missed the following season with a torn Achilles before making her return to Sydney last summer.

With 87 matches, 36 wickets and close to 600 runs to her name, Reakes remains one of the most experienced heads in the WBBL.

Head of Female Elite Cricket at Cricket NSW, Leah Poulton congratulated Ange and Courtney on the safe arrival of Winnie:

“Although we’re disappointed to be without Ange (and Emma) on-field this summer, we know they’ll both still be very much in the fold off-field.”

“We’re obviously really excited for Ange and Coutney as first-time mums, and we’re looking forward to seeing the newest member of the Sixers family at a game this summer.”

Tickets to Weber WBBL|08 and KFC BBL|12 are on sale NOW via Ticketek.

Suffering a torn ACL in June while playing overseas, Hughes underwent reconstructive surgery in late July before beginning her rehabilitation process last month.

Now into her fourth season with the Sixers, the 21-year-old signed a two-year extension ahead of WBBL|08, keeping her in magenta until 2024.

Poulton spoke positively of the 21-year-old’s recovery:

“It’s disappointing for Emma and the club for her to miss this WBBL season, but she’s making excellent progress with her rehabilitation and remains an integral part of our group”.

Replacement players will be named in due course.
