Summer’s best family sports and entertainment offering is back, with the Big Bash League announcing nominations for the WBBL and BBL Overseas Player Drafts have opened today, inviting the world’s best cricketers to put their name forward to play in the upcoming seasons.

From today, players from around the world can nominate for the Weber WBBL|09 and KFC BBL|13 Draft via an online nomination portal, including their availability for part or all of the tournament.

Introduced ahead of the KFC BBL|12 season, the Overseas Player Draft elevates the recruitment of international players, excites fans for the upcoming seasons and provides new opportunities for the Clubs and League.

In addition to opening the nominations portal for the Overseas Player Drafts, the Big Bash League has shared the dates for the upcoming Weber WBBL and KFC BBL seasons.

Weber WBBL|09: Thursday, October 19 – Saturday, December 2 (The Final).

KFC BBL|13: Thursday, December 7 – Wednesday, January 24 (The Final).

As previously confirmed, KFC BBL|13 will feature a reduced 44-match schedule with the Weber WBBL|09 fixture remaining at 59.

Alistair Dobson, General Manager, Big Bash Leagues said:

“The League is excited to open the nomination portal for the Overseas Player Drafts, providing an opportunity for the best international talent to join the upcoming seasons. We are especially excited for the inaugural WBBL Overseas Player Draft, as we saw last year the BBL Overseas Player Draft injected significant excitement and interest into the global T20 market, and we look forward to seeing this extend to the WBBL this year.

“We are also pleased to unveil the season dates for both Weber WBBL|09 and KFC BBL|13. With a full summer of cricket ahead, the Big Bash League will be leading the way with another thrilling WBBL season across the country in October and November.

“The dates of the KFC BBL season will again compliment the overall shape of this summer’s cricket schedule and culminate with finals well within the school holidays. The start of the season will also present some unique opportunities to engage with communities, connect with fans and introduce exciting new initiatives which will be announced in due course.

“The Big Bash League is iconic in the Australian cricketing landscape, captivating fans across the nation and we look forward to witnessing another summer of exhilarating matches and top tier talent.”

Further information around the Weber WBBL|09 and KFC BBL|13 schedules as well as the Overseas Player Drafts will be released in the coming months.
