The Adelaide Strikers have added another BBL Player of the Tournament to their squad, with batting all-rounder D’Arcy Short joining the Strikers on a two-year deal.

A left-handed batter who also bowls dangerous wrist spin, Short has played BBL with the Hobart Hurricanes since the 2016/17 season, scoring 2706 runs, including two centuries and a high-score of 122*.

In BBL|07 and BBL|08, Short won back-to-back Player of the Tournament awards, with his BBL|08 season being particularly dominant – he amassed 637 runs while also taking 10 wickets.

This incredible feat makes Short the only player in Big Bash history to score more than 600 runs and finish with double digit wickets in a season.

It’s not just the Big Bash where Short has impressed – the electric talent has also taken the field in 23 T20 matches for Australia and has played in T20 competitions around the world including the Indian Premier League and The Hundred.

Short said he is thrilled to be joining the Strikers for at least the next two summers.

“Adelaide Oval is such an incredible place to play cricket and I look forward to running out with my new teammates in front of big crowds – I can’t wait to get going,” Short said.

“The Strikers showed last year what they are capable off at their best and I will be giving everything to help take the team to the next level, with the ultimate goal always being to lift that cup at the end.

“I am so thankful to the Hurricanes for my time in Hobart, it has been an absolute joy and I will always cherish the friendships and memories formed there.

“This is a new challenge for me and I am excited to get to work in Adelaide.”

Adelaide Strikers head coach Jason Gillespie said he is pleased to be adding a player of such quality to the list.

“We’re really excited that D’Arcy has decided to join the Strikers, he’s a strong T20 player and brings that Australian experience too.

“As a two-time Player of the Tournament, we’ve all seen what he can do in the Big Bash, he’s a powerful batter with the ability to bowl valuable overs.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming D’Arcy to Adelaide and for him to strengthen our squad.”

Short is the first new signing for the Strikers ahead of BBL|13, with more players to be announced in coming weeks.
