Karachi’s flagship cricket venue is set for a significant transformation as the Pakistan Cricket Board accelerates its long-term infrastructure strategy, with fresh design visuals offering a glimpse into how the National Stadium could look in its next phase. As per a report by ProPakistani, the PCB has officially unveiled the latest design model for the revamped National Stadium Karachi, signalling a major upgrade to one of the country’s most important international venues.

National Stadium redesign anchors PCB’s upgrade vision

The newly revealed design centres on a modern, state-of-the-art enclosure aimed at bringing the National Stadium in line with contemporary international standards. The redevelopment is positioned as more than a cosmetic refresh, with the focus firmly on improving match-day experience for spectators, players, and broadcasters alike.

Concept visuals show a reimagined structure that prioritises improved sightlines, modern seating layouts, upgraded media facilities, and enhanced access routes, addressing long-standing logistical and comfort challenges at the venue. Dedicated corporate and premium hospitality areas are also a key part of the new layout, reflecting the PCB’s intent to modernise revenue-generation capabilities at its major grounds.

NESPAK contract confirms scope and cost of the project

The project has formally moved into the execution phase, with National Engineering Services Pakistan confirming that it has signed a contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board for the construction of the new enclosure at the National Stadium.

The project has been valued at PKR 4 billion (approx. US$ 14.3 million), with the scope covering capacity enhancement, upgraded amenities, and structural improvements designed to meet international benchmarks. The involvement of NESPAK, a state-owned engineering consultancy, provides formal confirmation of the project’s execution framework and timeline planning.

Phased redevelopment tied to future PSL seasons

The National Stadium upgrade forms part of a broader, phased redevelopment strategy approved by the PCB’s Board of Governors. A second phase of renovation at the Karachi venue is scheduled to follow the conclusion of the 2026 Pakistan Super League, allowing the stadium to continue hosting major fixtures while construction is staggered to minimise disruption.

This phased approach mirrors the PCB’s wider infrastructure planning, balancing operational continuity with long-term redevelopment goals across its venue network.

Broader stadium expansion beyond Karachi

Karachi’s project sits within a wider national push to modernise cricket infrastructure across Pakistan. The PCB has already cleared plans for an Oval-style redevelopment of Lahore’s LCCA Ground and is progressing with preparations for a brand-new international-standard stadium in Islamabad, with land allocated near the D-12 sector and design inspiration drawn from leading venues in the UAE.

In parallel, Abbottabad and Muzaffarabad have been identified for major ground upgrades, marking a shift toward expanding high-quality cricket infrastructure beyond traditional metropolitan centres. The strategy reflects the PCB’s aim to create a more balanced and future-ready venue map capable of supporting domestic growth and international hosting commitments.

Taken together, the unveiling of the National Stadium Karachi design and the confirmed NESPAK contract underline the PCB’s intent to modernise its core assets, positioning Pakistan’s cricket venues for the demands of global cricket in the years ahead.
