PSL documentary to spotlight decade of transformation
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is turning 10, and to mark the milestone, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning a major documentary project that will chronicle the league’s evolution from its inaugural season in 2016 through to its upcoming 2025 edition.
According to sources, the documentary will detail how the PSL went from a bold concept to one of the world’s most followed T20 competitions. It is expected to cover both the league’s iconic moments and the challenges that shaped its identity—ranging from security concerns and logistical hurdles to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a focus on storytelling and high production value, the film will offer a behind-the-scenes view into how the PSL transformed not just Pakistan’s cricketing landscape, but also its global reputation in the sport.
Cultural impact and sporting legacy in focus
The documentary will explore the league’s significance as more than just a cricket tournament. It will reflect on the PSL’s role in reviving international cricket in Pakistan and launching the careers of rising stars who have gone on to represent the national team.
Key moments expected to feature include the early tournaments hosted in the UAE, the eventual return of games to Pakistan, the league’s adaptation to pandemic-era restrictions, and its growing profile on the international cricket calendar.
The 10th edition, which concluded earlier this year with Lahore Qalandars defeating Quetta Gladiators in a dramatic final at Gaddafi Stadium, provides a timely backdrop for the production.
PCB invites proposals from global production houses
In parallel with development, the PCB has issued a formal Expression of Interest (EOI), inviting proposals from production houses with experience in delivering premium documentary content.
The board is seeking a full-cycle partner that can manage every aspect of the project—from creative development and on-ground filming to post-production and global distribution.
The proposed docuseries is expected to:
- Build a compelling narrative arc that captures pivotal moments and personal stories
- Feature cinematic visuals shot on location in Pakistan, including behind-the-scenes access
- Deliver high-end post-production quality with original scoring and multilingual content delivery
- Secure international OTT distribution, supported by a robust marketing strategy
To support the production, the PCB will also provide access to its archival cricket footage.
Requirements and submission details
To be considered, interested entities must demonstrate:
- A strong background in documentary or docuseries production, preferably in sports or feature-length formats
- A proven ability to secure wide-scale distribution through mainstream platforms
- An experienced team with qualified professionals in directing, producing, and cinematography
- Creative and technical capabilities aligned with international production standards

Eligible applicants will receive a concept brief and be invited to participate in a collaborative brainstorming session. PCB has clarified that this is an open call for interest only; a separate tender process will follow in line with procurement regulations.
Telling the story of a cricketing revolution
The PSL’s 10-year journey is more than a sports story—it’s a tale of ambition and national pride. What began as a high-risk venture has become a cornerstone of Pakistan’s cricketing identity and a growing force in global T20 leagues.
Through this upcoming documentary, the PCB aims to present not just the league’s greatest hits, but the full narrative of how the PSL redefined cricket in Pakistan.
