Victorian batter James Seymour has signed with the Melbourne Renegades.

Seymour joins the squad as a replacement player for Shaun Marsh, who will miss the start of BBL|11 with a calf injury.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough year in domestic cricket.

He made his Marsh Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup debuts in April this year, before scoring a maiden first-class century in just his third game, last month.

“I’m looking forward to being a Renegade,” Seymour said.

“It’s been a big year for me, it was great to make my Victorian debut and play a few Shield games and I’m looking forward to now being part of the BBL.

“I’ll be ready for any chance to play and just look to show my skills with the bat and bring a lot of energy in the field.”

Seymour is yet to debut at BBL level but was a replacement player with the Melbourne Stars during BBL|10.

“James is a talented batter who we believe is ready to step up and play Big Bash cricket,” Head Coach, David Saker, said.

“He’s performed well for Victoria this summer, impressed in practice matches this week and has the flexibility to open the batting or slot into the middle order.”
