The MCG will host its first ever standalone WBBL match this season as one of seven games in Melbourne for the Stars.

In a huge win for cricket fans and fans of women’s sport, the Melbourne Stars will play 6 home games in WBBL|09, including a match at the MCG.

The first ever standalone WBBL game will be played at the MCG on Saturday, November 25.

The event will be the first of its kind since 86,174 people attended the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final in March, 2020. Stars and Renegades fans alike will be able to experience the best domestic women’s cricket competition at a world class venue.

As well as 3 matches at the CitiPower Centre, as announced yesterday, the Stars will take matches to the suburbs of Melbourne, playing at Jubilee Park in Ringwood and Casey Fields in Cranbourne East.

The fixture also sees the Stars feature in 6 free to air games, the most of any club, which will take fans closer to the team than ever before.

“It’s a great result for our members and fans who will be able to experience a full home season for the first time since WBBL|05,” said Melbourne Stars General Manager, Blair Crouch.

“We have seen the growth of women’s sport in Australia and around the world and we’re proud to take the best T20 cricketers in the world to all parts of Melbourne at the CitiPower Centre, Jubilee Park and Casey Fields.

“We’re particularly excited to host the first ever standalone WBBL match at the MCG as the climax to our home and away season.

“The squad is shaping up wonderfully and we’re in full planning mode for the inaugural WBBL Overseas Player Draft.”
