Reporting to the Head of Media Relations, the Media Relations Specialist, Domestic and Operations will be responsible for driving the communications for domestic cricket, pathways and general touring teams.

About The Role

We are looking for a driven communications professional to join our Media Relations team and our wider Marketing & Communications department.

Domestic Cricket

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead all communications activity for the Marsh Sheffield Shield, Marsh One-Day Cup and the WNCL, working closely with State & Territory Associations and their teams.
  • Utilise Domestic Cricket to proactively drive cricket’s Share of Voice nationally in the build up to international cricket, while working to protect and enhance cricket’s reputation.
  • Develop innovative media management and distribution methods to effectively drive positive media coverage of domestic competitions.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations including MOU and department specific contractual arrangements .

Media Relations

  • Build relationships with key media on behalf of Australian Cricket, inclusive of cricket writers, sports journalists, news editors, breakfast radio and television programs, columnists and public commentators.
  • Assist the Head of Media Relations with the preparation of responses to significant cricket issues, particularly related to the company’s reputation and brand, and respond appropriately to inquiries. This also includes providing advice across the CA business on media relations, issues management and positioning related issues for junior participation in general.

Touring Teams & National Teams

  • Where required act as media manager for tour matches, Australia A and other squads as required.
  • Where required act as media manager for national teams for select tours, in the scenario where the main media manager is unavailable.

Media Operations

  • Act as primary contact for delivering the home summer of cricket’s international media operations.
  • Manage Cricket Australia’s media accreditation program for the home summer of cricket (BBL, WBBL, Sheffield Shield WNCL, Men’s One-Day, Men’s and Women’s Internationals).
  • Ensure State and Territories are delivering against required service levels for international media operations.
  • Manage media queries on operational requirements where needed on behalf of CA.
  • Liaise as needed with Government and other stakeholders to leverage partnerships in the media centre.
  • Review best practice procedures to ensure Cricket is servicing media at the very best standard.
  • Take a lead role in media operations including – but not limited to – press accreditation approvals and distribution, seating plans at major events, press box catering, photographer bib allocation, publishing of pre-match advisories and more.

Match Officials

  • Lead communications for all match official announcements throughout the season.

Pathways

  • Act as primary media contact for CA’s Pathway program, including driving a communications strategy to solidify its role in the game.
  • Facilitate information sharing and collaboration with State & Territory Associations and their pathways programs.
  • Drive CA owned channel outputs, including social media content and working closely with Cricket.com.au to ensure a maximum share of voice.

Integrated Messaging

  • Work in association with the key internal leaders to develop and implement proactive media relations programs to appropriately position cricket within the communities it serves, in addition to ensuring consistency and clarity of external messaging across all platforms.
  • Work in association with the broader communications team, Community Cricket, Team Performance, Commercial, Marketing and Strategy, to ensure the delivery of fully integrated communication solutions.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

Qualifications

  • A university degree in journalism or communications is desirable

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant field is desirable
  • Significant demonstrated experience in sport or a PR agency delivering on large-scale promotional plans
  • Demonstrated experience in gaining positive coverage for events
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills
  • Strong written communication skills
